Common questions
What is a kalimba?
A thumb piano: metal tines on a wooden box, plucked with your thumbs. Hymn Along turns your phone into one. Hold it sideways and play with both thumbs.
Do I need to read music or know how to play?
No. The app plays each verse for you first, then the next note glows for you to play. In “Wait for me” it waits as long as you need.
I can’t hear anything.
Turn up the volume with the buttons on the side of your iPhone. Hymn Along plays even when your phone is on silent. If you have headphones or a Bluetooth speaker connected, the sound goes there.
The screen doesn’t turn when I turn my phone.
If Portrait Orientation Lock is on in Control Center, tap “I’ve turned it” to start playing anyway.
How does Play together work?
Open the same hymn on two iPhones on the same Wi-Fi, tap Play together on both, and allow Hymn Along to find devices on your network. When the dot turns green, pick your part and start. Both phones count in together.
Does it cost anything?
No. Hymn Along is free, with no ads and no account.
Which iPhones does it work on?
iPhones running iOS 18 or later.
